Funny Halloween Books for Boys

We tackled funny Valentines books, funny poetry books, funny pirate books and funny knight books so far.  We just had to do a funny halloween books too!

These are the funniest Halloween books I could find that I knew would appeal to your boys.

Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins: A Halloween Book for
Five Little Pumpkins

Pete the Cat is cute and funny. In Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins

Pete shares the traditional 5 little pumpkins rhyme. There is not a lot of text here but the illustrations are great – as always.

Silly is always expected with Pete. The witches are frogs! Wait until you see what Pete dresses up as.

Scaredy-Cat, Splat! (Splat the Cat)
Scaredy-Cat Splat!

Scaredy-Cat, Splat! Splat is a scaredy-cat and he doesn’t like being more silly than scary but he is.

See what happens to Splat when the lights go out!

Even Monsters Need Haircuts

Even Monsters Need Haircuts

With a dad as a barber this young boy is ready to help out.

Only his customers are just a tad unusual! Even Monsters Need Haircuts

Skeleton Hiccups

Skeleton Hiccups

A skeleton with hiccups? Yup! In Skeleton Hiccups this skeleton goes through a lot of regular tasks all while having the hiccups. It is funny how they finally go away.

Halloween Hustle

Halloween Hustle

The rhyming text in this book is fun to read.

If you are a musical family or just like to see a skeleton dancing (and falling apart!) you will like Halloween Hustle.

The last time I looked, the hardcover was cheaper than the paperback, so you might as well get that.

Keep scrolling for more fun titles!

Oh my gosh! These Halloween Parody books are a complete hoot. They are spooky, scary fun at its very best!! Tap or click to see them all.

Halloween Parody Books

Here are five funny Halloween parody books that are so much fun!

I suggest reading (or re-reading) the original, and then reading the Halloween version. It is great to have them side-by-side for comparison.

So. Much. Fun!

Goodnight Goon (A Petrifying Parody)

Goodnight Goon

Here is one for boys who are past Goodnight Moon.

Goodnight Goon: a Petrifying Parody is very funny.

Here is one super line to give you a taste, “Goodnight skull. And goodnight shoe. Goodnight creature. Goodnight goo. And goodnight to the old werewolf hollering ‘Boo.”

This is very well done and a howl!

Runaway Mummy: a Petrifying Parody

Runaway Mummy

Runaway Mummy: a Petrifying Parody is based on The Runaway Bunny.

“If you run away,” she says, “I will get you! For you are my rotten little mummy!” Quite the switch from the cute little bunny story.
Halloween Night

Halloween Night

This book is a take on The Night Before Christmas.

Halloween Night takes the verse pattern and turns it all about Halloween.

“Twas Halloween night, and all through the house. Every creature was stirring, including the mouse.”
Frankenstein: A Monstrous Parody

Frankenstein

Honestly, this one was a surprise to find. Frankenstein by Ludworst Bemonster is a monstered out Madeline.

It starts “In a creepy old castle, all covered with vines, lived twelve ugly monsters in two crooked lines.”

If you read Madeline to your boy when he was young, he is going to love this one!
The Very Hungry Zombie: A Parody

The Very Hungry Zombie

We are moving into zombie territory next so keep in mind that they are talking about eating brains etc. Not a book for the young.

The Very Hungry Zombie: A Parody is a twist on The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Oh boy. This one is tough for a sensitive mom to take! It starts “A blood red moon shown down on a corpse that lay rotting beneath the ground.”

It is a touch creepy, a bit demented and quite a lot ghoulish. The boys I know ate this one up (how’s that for a bad zombie joke!)

There you have it, funny books to read to your boys at Halloween.

Here are the other books I mentioned earlier. Take a moment to take a look and pin them for later.

Funny Poetry Books
Funny Pirate Books to Make Boys Laugh
Funny Valentine’s Day Books for Boys
Funny Knight Books
