LEGO Leprechaun Trap Designs That Will Catch a Leprechaun!

What better way to get ready for  St. Patrick’s Day, than to build a LEGO Leprechaun Trap!

Have you built your traps yet? It is a fun, creative, (and silly!) activity to do with your kids.

We love to create with LEGO and making our own LEGO Designs is one of our favorite ways to play and learn.

Believe me when I say that I learned a lot about designing with LEGO during this project! My first project was a bit of a fail. We did include some instructions and pictures here to make it a bit easier for you!

Try building an LEGO leprechaun trap today. Be sure to include plenty of tempting gold so the leprechauns will find it appealing and be sure to stop by!

LEGO Leprechaun Trap Designs

I asked my son if he wanted to help me make a LEGO leprechaun trap. We have never done it before and I thought it would be a fun project for us to work on together.

He had a design in mind right away and dumped out our big bin of LEGO and got to work.

You and your kids can make easy LEGO leprechaun traps just like we did 🙂

Make a LEGO Leprechaun Trap. Includes how to make a door that closes.

The image above shows a side view of our builds and a couple of the special pieces used.

My only requirement for my LEGO design was that it had a door that would close. Keep in mind that I am not quite as experienced with LEGO as my son is. Building a design with a door that closed was not as easy as I thought it would be!

My first attempt looked great. The door was flush with the front of the building but . . . it wouldn’t close all the way. I couldn’t have that as my little leprechaun just might escape, so I had to try again.

Here is a peak inside our builds so you can see more of the construction (and his neat pot of gold!)

My son make the green and yellow trap and I made the smaller trap with the door (yes, I finally got it to work!)

Our LEGO designs are not very big.

His trap is 8 studs by 8 studs square and 12 bricks high including the legs which are 5 bricks high.

Mine is 8 studs wide by 6 studs deep, plus the door and 5 bricks high.

He used 2 plates 4 x 8 plates which made it easy to get the roof off. He had the perfect LEGO cauldron for his gold (from this LEGO game.) I had to use a red open brick (see image above) and attach it to my roof to hold my gold.

Easy to make door for LEGO Leprechaun Trap (or any other building)

To make the door you need the special hinged piece. I attached three 1 x 4 bricks (yellow) to my 1 x 4 swivel hinge piece (white) then added a 1 x 2 (white) to the top to make the top the same height all the way across.

TIP: if you or your child decides to use a door, build your door first so you can use it in your LEGO design. I didn’t do this and had to take my trap apart to fit the door piece into the box shape I created for the trap.

Make your own LEGO Leprechaun Traps for some St. Patrick's Day fun!

We had so much fun making our leprechaun traps I knew I wanted to share our LEGO designs with you.

Designing and building these traps involved a whole lot of learning–especially for me–ha ha ha!

Use these as a starting point, and try designing your own. I’m sure you will all have a great time.

This is so fun and clever. I am always trying to think of more creative ways for my boys to play with Legos other than them knocking down my towers! We could get really creative using your pictures as inspiration!

This is very clever-- I never really thought of Legos as learning tools, but I guess they are! Cute idea incorporating the St Patrick's Day theme into this!

Thanks Kelly, Yup, I really do think LEGO is a great learning tool but simply because natural learning occurs when playing with it. Glad you liked the traps :)
