Take an Exciting Trip Through The Past With Audio Adventures

If you need an exciting adventure to get your boys interested in history have I got an idea for you. Audio books, but not your typical audio books!

Audio books are a must in our homeschool. We simply love them. The best ones engage and pull you into the story and at the same time teach something important about the topic you and your family are studying.

I ran across a set of audio books that I am so impressed with that I had to share them with you. You and your boys are going to love them.

Audio Adventures CD Review

Audio Adventures They Won’t Forget

I was sent a set of four Audio Adventure CDs for review purposes and received compensation for this post. As always, all opinions are my own and I only share things with you that we really like and that I think you will benefit from. My family and I listened to the first set on a road trip we took to see family.

Let me tell you a bit about them and then I will share with you what we thought of them.

First, I have to say that these are no ordinary books on CD. They are unusual in many ways.

  • You are not simply listening to a story told by a narrator. You are immersed in the story because of the way these CDs were produced. These are audio drama adventures.
  • You are getting a cinematic live-action story. Think of it as being at the movies and hearing the full soundtrack. Listening lets you create the images in your mind. You hear the battle raging, people yelling, gunfire etc. They are exciting to listen to.
  • The content is well-written and based on the popular books by G.A. Henty. His stories were intensely researched to provide important historical facts within his adventure stories and they are geared to appeal to boys. The CDs stay true to that spirit and style of storytelling.
  • The music is top notch. We all enjoyed it very much. It isn’t just background music, it sets the tone for the scenes and contributes to the overall enjoyment of the story.

In Freedom's Cause by Audio Adventures Review

Our Review of In Freedom’s Cause

My husband’s family hails from Scotland so we were excited to listen to the tale of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. We were already familiar with the background story of these men so we didn’t look anything up before listening.

The first part of the CD was a little bit confusing. It starts with a side-story before getting into the main story and that threw us off a bit. Once we figured out that we were being introduced to the narrator we were all set. The beginning part is short, but I mention it as I want to make sure you keep going to get to the good part.

After we figured that out we couldn’t stop listening!  It is that exciting.  I don’t want to ruin the story by telling you too much but the stage is set when you find out that a young boy’s father was killed and his mother has been keeping the secret of who killed him so as to protect herself and her son. Then you get William Wallace and The Bruce as well. Wow!

My son says “The sound effects in the background give it a nice feel.”

My husband thought that they were very well done and accurate. He knows the story well.

I enjoyed the whole thing, from the story, to the drama, to the wonderful music.

As I said, we were taking a road trip while we were listening and when we actually got to our destination we didn’t want to turn it off and go in.  As soon as we got back into the car, we turned it on again for our trip home.

We so enjoyed In Freedom’s Cause that we look forward to listening to another adventure CD very soon. Will it be the medieval story of The Dragon and The Raven, the Civil war adventure With Lee in West Virginia, or excitement on the high seas in Under Drake’s Flag?  I’ll let my son decide as he is excited to listen to them all.

These sound really neat. My youngest has started to show interest in audiobooks and I love the idea of an audio adventure to get him started!
