Bembo’s Zoo: An Animal ABC Book and Website

Watch the ABCs come to life as animals!

This is such a neat book. I love it and if you have an animal lover in your house I am sure they will like it too.

Bembo’s Zoo: An Animal ABC Book is by graphic designer Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich.

This book is shows typographically created animals. Honestly, who would have thought one could be so taken with a such an unusual thing–I am in love with these! 🙂

If you are wondering, as I was, what Bembo is–it is actually the name of a font and is described as a “old-style humanist serif typeface from 1495”  Who knew?

The book is available used (or new for a crazy price) or you can pick it up from your library. Give Bembo’s Zoo a try–I think it is delightful.

I am also writing this post to tell you about the Bembo’s Zoo website.  I ran across this while working on an alphabet books for older readers post (see link below.) and couldn’t wait to share it.

You and your boys will really enjoy the Bembo’s Zoo website. To start with a lovely gate opens to welcome you to the zoo.  The ABCs follow your mouse around as you swirl it on the screen–so much fun!

Plus you are able to click on each letter and watch the letters form an animal. My favorite was the turtle, though it was very hard to choose just one.

There is so much going on here.  The alphabet, art, spelling, computer animation, and more.  A whole lot to learning while exploring the ABCs.

I really hope you will check it out and come back and leave a comment about it.  I thought it was really neat and my son enjoyed it as well.  What do you think?
