UPDATE: LEGO Minifigures Online has shut down and is no longer available. To see all of our LEGO posts, please go to our LEGO Index.
LEGO Minifigures Online is a new and exciting LEGO game. LEGO teamed with Funcom to bring the world of minifigs to life. There is a huge variety of minifigs and a lot of different worlds to explore. Each one bringing treasures, as well as peril.
The game requires a download to play. You can sign up a couple of different ways. You can use your LEGO account name and sign-in if you already have one or you can register and create an account on site.
The LEGO Minifigures Online game has been in beta for quite some time and it is now in open beta which allows people to sign up without invitation. My son has been playing this for a while and has had a lot of fun with it.
Your minifigs can “die” so to speak. They get attacked by various foes and when you get attacked you lose health and then they fall apart. You can lose a minifig this way for a period of time but they come back after a while or you can revive them with diamonds. I have not seen any fake blood in the game. Parts of LEGO Minifigures Online are quite challenging. While it is multiplayer, players don’t attack each other. Players can help each other defeat monsters.

To gain hearts, stars and diamonds you must defeat foes and break a lot of structures. So, there is a whole lot of smashing going on. You can also “build” within the game though that is just having your character automatically build whatever is in front of it. There is no do it yourself building however, but that would be too stressful anyway as there is always something coming at you!
You can play as different minifigs which is very cool and a lot of fun. Be a cyclops, a bee, a plumber, a forest maiden, an alien avenger, an aztec and more. You also buy LEGO Minifig Packs within the game. This game does allow you to win diamonds in order to “purchase” a pack so you do not have to spend money. A bit commercial as they are advertising Minifig packs within the game. We just discuss things like that and ways companies make money and try to get you to buy things.
That being said there are areas that only members can access and there are also big, super looking treasure chests that are for members only. So there is subtle upsell. My son has been able to level up and go through the game quite far without having to pay. We will see how long that lasts.
You can purchase a membership and you can buy diamonds as well. Membership runs 7.99 a month and is $59.99 for a year. Membership does allow your to access additional areas. As I said, you can play for free and that is what my son is doing. The game is rated E10+ for fantasy violence.
This is a fun game with a variety of tasks, challenges, and worlds to visit. Very much like the LEGO games that you purchase for game stations it is top quality.
Overall, LEGO Minifigures Online, is a really great game that boys who are LEGO fans will likely enjoy playing. Maybe your boy will be interested in learning more about one of the featured worlds such as medieval castle, pirates, space or the newly released mythology world. Let me know if you would like a homeschool unit study on any of these topics!
If your boy enjoys playing this game
and wants to do some offline LEGO Minfig play
